- Hello all,
- Some important volleyball business to attend to:
- First,
- The school board is recognizing the 12 girls who won the provincials and the Seaquam senior volleyball team (who won AAA provincials) on Jan.10 (next Tuesday evening) at 7:15 at the school board offices on Harvest Drive. Cake will be served in the foyer afterwards. Our senior girls soccer team did this a couple years ago when they won provincials, it's good PR and helps us to keep district money going into athletics. I expect all of you to make it if possible, it should only be for an hour at most.
- Second,
- According to my records these people still owe me money for Kamloops back in October ($40 if you drove, $70 if you didn't): Leah, Marta, Sara, Mackenzie, Sydney, Dani, Maria. If you did pay that money, and my records are wrong, please let me know. I'd like to close the books on the season.
- Third,
- You're killing me. How hard can it be to hand in a jersey? I still need them from EVERYONE except: Zoe, Emily, Nicole, Megan McN, Sabrina, Courtney and Sam. The seven of you are now my favorite people.
- Fourth,
- I'd like to do a wrap up on Saturday, Jan.14 with an outing to Milestones in Kits followed by the UBC game vs. Thompson Rivers (Kamloops). The UBC girls are having an excellent season and the men aren't bad either. Game time is 5pm so I propose we meet at Milestones (2966 W4th at Bayswater) at 3:00 for appies and then go to UBC. Please don't bring any gifts for me, usually I appreciate them, but this year everyone was very generous at Kobe's baby shower. I'm sure Anne, Heather and Sean would appreciate any love you have to give.
- PLEASE get back to me regarding all of the above. I need to know if you can make it Jan.14 (and 10th), I need some money from people and I need jerseys.
- Cheers and happy new year,
- Burgess

Hi Everyone,
The Richmond Olympic Oval is very excited to welcome you to the 2011 Junior Provincial Championships at the Premier Legacy of the 2010 Games! I want to send out a few notes about the facility so you are prepared for a great weekend. Please pass this information onto your parents/spectators and athletes. Getting into the Oval: We are located off River Rd between No2 Rd and Hollybridge Rd. The parkade entrance is off of Road C (yes, we hope to have a more creative name in the future). Parking: I would recommend parking in Rows D & E, as Rows A & B are reserved for Members. Parking is $1 per hr/$10 max per day. Pay at the pay station (near the sliding doors or at the north side sliding doors). The ticket must be placed on your dash. The lot is very patrolled so it is worth the time to walk back to your car. There is free parking available along River Road but it is limited. Entrance: Once in the building, wrap around the first staircase (DO NOT GO UP THE FIRST SET OF STAIRS) and move past the front desk. Continue down the hallway, and up the centre stair case – this is the entrance the Olympic athletes used to go to their event J! There will be signage as well. The event is being held in the TRACK ZONE Food Services: We do have food services on with a coffee bar, pastas, salads, muffins, etc. Additional Items: We ask that teams remain in the track zone as much as possible during the event. There is lots of space but we ask that any food and garbage is cleaned up and taken care. NO food and beverages (except water bottles ONLY) will be allowed near the courts. Dawna Sales Alright, so that didn't quite work out the way we planned. I hope none of you have too many regrets. You shouldn't because as far as I could tell, we left it all on the court. If you're like me, you're racking your brain with "what if I had done....." or "Maybe I should have...." but that kind of thinking is counter-productive; in hindsight, everything looks like it would have been a better choice. In all likelihood, if you played your hardest and reacted instinctually to most situations, not much should change. I'm enormously proud of what you accomplished and I keep pinching myself when I remember that you still have 2 or 3 years to play together.....I think I'm the luckiest coach in the world.
Provincials are coming up fast and it looks to be a fun contest. Our favorite teams from the Valleys, teams from the Island and Kootenays we've never seen are there and...hold your breath....we get to play Seaquam AGAIN! Here is the Round Robin for Friday. The Playoff draw is here. Other information can be found on the website. SDSS pays the ridiculous entrance fee ($400!) but you need to give me $20 each for t-shirts. We practice 4:30 Thursday with the seniors and will be running a mini-tournament of sorts as it is our last practice ever. Burgess out. Hi all,
Unbelievable. SDSS girls volleyball teams finished first in each of their respective leagues this season, a first as far back as I can remember. The grade 8's, juniors and seniors are all moving on to Fraser Valley tournaments this coming week. In the case of the juniors and seniors, we also have important hosting duties, please read on. Seniors Awesome play at the Police Cup tournament Thursday night distinguished us over our DSS rivals. A great final against Seaquam as well, it's not every day you get to perform that well against a number one provincial seed. A couple lucky bounces and the game could have very easily been ours. Well done ladies. This is what your week looks like: Monday practice at 3:00 Tuesday, practice to be determined. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday our games will be at SDSS for the Fraser Valleys as we are now officially hosting! Here is a link to the draw, Sandra and I are hoping to secure a good berth in our meeting Monday night. http://www.fvvc.bc.ca/dyn.4AG.php You should be aiming for a top 5 finish if we are to have a chance of making provincials: http://schools.sd68.bc.ca/girlsvolleyball/ Please be prepared to help out when you are not playing as we will need many minor officials for this event. Please also advise parents and friends that their will be a $1/$2 charge for admission. Finally, I will need most of you to contribute about 2 hours of your time next Saturday to help run the Junior Fraser Valley tournament at SDSS. Juniors We raised a lot of eyebrows with our very convincing win over Seaquam in the Delta final, especially with our 25-6 first set score. I think we have a very good chance of being berthed 1 or 2 in the Fraser Valley for the upcoming tournament. This is what your week looks like: Monday practice at 6:00 Tuesday practice at 6:00 Thursday practice at 3:00 Wednesday, Thursday and Friday many of you have signed up to help out with the senior Fraser Valleys. Please check to see what night you are working. If you haven't signed up (many of the grade 9's) please do so. Saturday game at 2:00 (first round of Fraser Valleys). Here is the tournament draw. ***Important: so neither you nor your fans embarrass yourself, here is a couple of links to current volleyball Canada rules regarding subbing and the net. These are different than our league rules in Delta and will be the rules followed in the Fraser Valley tournament.Net Rule and Sub rule Monday and Tuesday we will have games in Coquitlam in the evening depending on the outcome of our game Saturday. Finally, a number of you have yet to pay for Kamloops ($70 each or $40 if you were a driver) and all of the jerseys from the Devils 2 team need to be returned to Anne ASAP. Hi all,
Just a quick update for the juniors. Practice is cancelled on Monday on accounts of Halloween. Please make sure you're ready to go on Tuesday as both teams have away games, you'll be excused at 2:15. Kamloops: after looking at all costs (TOC's, Hotel, Socks, etc) each player owes $70. If your parents drove a car up, you only owe $40. Please make cheques payable to SDSS and bring them next week. Cheers, B. Hi everyone,
Time for another update as I've been too busy of late! GREAT JOB on the tournament by EVERYONE! What a great volleyball community we have at SDSS. Seniors, fantastic job of reffing, one of the best tournaments ever in terms of quality and flow. Juniors, you all did so well. Devils 2 is making quick gains in quality of play and intensity and Devils 1 is looking stronger than ever. That was our best win yet over Seaquam, not because we smoked them (we didn't) but because you won with your solid mental game. No one panicked, no one second guessed themselves and everyone had great confidence. Senior Update: The cost for Victoria came to $75 each, please pay Sue Robinson. Emma, Emma and Carly, you're good as your folks have already paid. Taelor and Courtney talk to me. Games this week are important, three more wins and we finish top 4 in the valley giving us a great draw to make provincials. Please remember to keep Nov.4/5 clear for more reffing at our gr8 tournament. Provincials this year are the first weekend of December. Junior Update: Games this week are Tuesday/Thursday. Check previous posts for locations. Practices are Monday/Wednesday at 4:30. Enjoy this weekend as November will be busy with games, playoffs, tournaments and hopefully provincials. For those of you making plans, our Fraser Valley playoffs will be Nov.19/21/22 and Provincials are the Nov.25/26 weekend, hopefully at the Richmond Oval. Hi all,
Great wins today. I thought Devils 1 showed considerably more focus than last week, I'm proud of all of you. Devils 2, you did a fine job of demonstrating it doesn't matter who coaches you, you still win in the end. Three things: 1) Practice is canceled tomorrow. 2) Game is at home for Devils 1 and away for Devils 2 (Seaquam). 3) Early start on Friday with your respective drivers. Right now it looks like Laura W., Jessica and Zoe have some extra room if you want to get together and carpool. PLEASE pick up a permission form from me first thing tomorrow, a few of you escaped before I was able to give you one. Finally, I've attached the draw info for the weekend HERE. All games are at the University either in the Tournament Centre or the TRU gym. The Maverick Inn is about a 5 min drive away if you go the back way and stay off the highway. We will work out costs associated with the trip after the fact. Cheers, B. Hi all,
A busy but short week ahead: Juniors, games are at home on Tuesday while Thursday will see Devils 1 at home and Devils 2 on the road. Friday will be an early morning start for the trek to Kamloops as the first games for both squads are just before noon. I'd like to have a quick meeting immediately following/preceeding our games tomorrow to clarify rides and hand out permission forms. We only have one practice this week, Wednesday, probably 3:00 (but I'll confirm that tomorrow). For those that are interested, here's the link to the Fraser Valley Junior website: www.fvvcjunior.com Seniors, well done at the Camosun tournament, another top 10 finish. Some of the teams we played (Highroad, Seaquam) are top three in the province in their respective leagues. You get the week and weekend off to catch up on schoolwork and rest up for the busy three weekends after. Practices will be 4:30 everyday immediately following the games in the junior games in the big gym. Hi all,
Just a quick note that the Maverick Motor Inn is full, so if you are a driver you will have to make alternate arrangements. Nearby hotels (nicer ones!) are the Hampton, Kamloops Towne Lodge, Best Western Kamloops, and the Sheraton. Also, in my last post I forgot to mention that the Devils2 team will be playing an exhibition match against Soutpointe after school on Wednesday at the Baptist Church. Cheers, B. Hi all,
Terrific work this weekend by both teams. I had goals for both teams and happily, they were all met. Next week, we have our first league games. Tuesday: Both teams are at home right after school Thursday: Devils 1 is at Seaquam, Devils 2 is at home. Practices are Monday at 4:30 and Wednesday at 3:00. Also, very important, the senior team is hosting 3 teams on Wednesday night. I'd like at least 12 of you to make an effort to be there from 5:30 to 9:30 to help out with scorekeeping, lines, etc. I will provide pizza for dinner. If you don't help out this Wednesday, I'll expect you to be there on Wednesday, Oct.19. Don't forget team pictures also take place Wednesday at 2:10, full uniform is required. Team fees are still due from 3 or 4 of you, please expedite this process by paying this Monday. Finally, it sounds like lots of you are organizing rides to Kamloops with parents and friends. Please continue to do so, parents can book rooms at the Maverick Motor Inn, we are there Friday night only. If you let them know you are with SDSS, they should give you some kind of discount. Rooms for all of the girls and coaches have been taken care of. We will do our best to pay for gas and parent room costs with the money we collect for the trip. |
